A New Age: Reading Goes Digital

Help me give my students materials for a literacy center that will help students learn about current events while also practicing nonfiction text skills, grammar, vocabulary, and be able to differentiate easily for my lower students!

My Students

My students are intelligent, creative, and social. They are positive even in this uncertain time. Our classroom is always full of laughter. About 1/3 of my students are below grade level and need a lot of support. Math and Literacy are some of the biggest trouble areas. Even with all of that, my students are always ready to learn and excited whenever they master a topic!

My Project

This year has been a rollercoaster for students and teachers. In order to be flexible, I am trying to incorporate as many digital-friendly options as I can just in case our school goes virtual and my students need to transition over.

Magazines both catch the students' eye and keep them engaged on relevant events going on that they will be interested in.

This is a perfect way for my students to keep up to date on current events while also practicing different essential nonfiction literacy skills, grammar skills, and vocabulary skills!

Scholastic also provides teacher resources that help make differentiating easy using these magazines so that I can really support my below-level students who need a little extra help. These magazines will give them a boost of confidence and help them be more engaged in learning!
