Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are highly motivated, creative, and curious. They are involved in many activities that our beautiful school has to offer including Garden Club, Robotics, Photography, Speech Contest, Soccer and Basketball Teams, and more. They are motivated by hands on projects, peer collaboration, STEM, technology, and anything engaging that catches their eye.

Our diverse school is home to many military families, and it is amazing to hear their life stories from moving time after time while serving our country.

We also have many bilingual students, some of whom are enrolled in our successful Dual Immersion program. Since this school opened three years ago, students from around the community have come together to form new friendships. Our students arrive to school eager to learn and should be provided with the necessary tools to become lifelong learners.

My Project

Reading is a vital component embedded throughout our day and we desperately need updated nonfiction texts to allow students to learn more about the world around them. As students advance through the grades, it is suggested that they read more nonfiction texts, as it helps develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Additionally, reading complex nonfiction text is what will be expected of them in college and in the professional workforce.

A strong classroom library must consist of a variety of highly engaging and rigorous nonfiction text.

My students need to build their vocabulary and knowledge in a variety of areas by reading more nonfiction. These resources would allow me to update our classroom library with new books to motivate my young readers.
