My students need hands on materials to study science concepts up close. The life cycle creatures and books show how life grows and changes allowing my kids to manipulate them over and over again.
My students are entering school for the first time. They are an excited and energetic group. They come from various backgrounds. Some are ready to run with academic concepts while others barely know their name or how old they are. Our school is a Title I school with most of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. We have many students from single and foster families. They are all eager to learn, but do so through different means. I share many of the materials I get with the other 2 or 3 PreK classes which allows us to reach more students. Visuals and hands-on projects seem to capture the interests of my students the most. That is where you can help.
My Project
These materials will help my students see life cycles up close and personal. They will be able to touch and move the creatures to show their understandings. The stamps will help them to record their learning and to make beginning books of their own.
The microscope will help them to not only see the plastic creatures we get more closely but to enhance real life objects like leaves and seeds as well.
The body images will help them to see parts of themselves they wouldn't otherwise be able to visualize. The Pop'ems can pull in temporary art to allow for creativity of any of these topics, from butterflies, frogs, and people.
All the materials are reusable so they should last for years of learning fun. Hands-on learning assists knowledge retention.
