Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This country is becoming reliant on technology. Music is adapting to this movement. In order to keep up with the rapid pace, my students need to be equipped with the right resources. With apps such as Musician's Kit, Garage Band, etc., students will be able to expand their technique and learn to compose music.
For the past three years, my students have gone above and beyond their expectations.
From receiving Superior and Excellent Ratings for the Orchestra District competitions to creating original works premiered during Spring Concerts, my orchestra students continue to impress their audience with their music making. During Solo and Ensemble, students take on the challenge of performing as a solo artist or in a small ensemble for ratings. My guitar students enter the first day not knowing how to play their instruments to being able to perform and write their own songs. They form their own rock bands thanks to another non-profit organization that provides us with curriculum for the bass guitar, keyboard and drums. We are fortunate and blessed with the talent we have and welcome any opportunities to showcase them.
My Project
iPads have applications that musicians can use to improve their learning. Some students do not have the means to own a computer. Having an iPad in the classroom will help them record music pass-offs in order to submit them online for a grade. This will give those students the opportunity to progress in class a lot faster. With Internet access, students will be able to access the non-profit organization website to look up practice materials used in class and modern band. In the orchestra world, a program called smart music allows students to play along with orchestral songs that we are learning in class in order to promote ear training and pitch recognition. It's like having a live orchestra accompaniment! Among a lot more uses that we can come up with, I believe the greatest one is the ability to compose music. Using programs like Finale or Garage Band, students are able to creates beats from drums, cool effects for guitar, and awesome bass grooves to write and compose their own music.
Giving an opportunity to have these students' voices heard through music is the greatest gift anyone could ever give.
There are students that go through what no normal ten to fourteen year old go through. Music may be their only outlet. If you had a chance to affect someones life through the beauty and power of music, wouldn't you?
