In my third year teaching I am continue to see the different approaches to learning and teaching within the classroom. Students learn in many ways...from hands on, to reading fiction and nonfiction texts, to drawing, to discussion, to computers and films. The last of these is why I am writing this proposal. I have noticed over the past years that VHS educational films are slowly becoming less and less available. Because I am such a firm believer in a differentiated approach to teaching, this has become more of a problem. In a school system like CPS where money is becoming less and less available, a simple (now inexpensive) device like a DVD player is not as "high" on the list as text books, desks, and teachers themselves. I am hoping to receive a DVD player to share with my school to view DVDs from local libraries and rental agencies. As a teacher, I have used the multimedia approach of educational films to reinforce skills taught in the areas of reading (comparing film and text), physics (force and energy), life cycles (animals and plants), Chicago History (studies of the Fire and local neighborhoods), etc. I truly believe that viewing educational films enriches the learning we do every day.
