If you walked into our classroom, you would see 24 first graders immersed in their learning, engaged in creative thinking, working out differences, and growing each day! They are a diverse group of students who come with a wide range of skills, abilities, talents, interests, and backgrounds.
Children learn a tremendous amount in kindergarten and it is my privilege and passion as a first grade teacher to build upon that foundation and take their learning to new levels!
First graders are excited about school and learning. I strive to provide them with a classroom environment that feels safe, comfortable, happy, and organized...An environment that is filled with materials that meet them at their own individual level, ignite and foster curiosity, help them feel successful, and tap into all that potential inside them!
My Project
My students benefit from flexible seating options. Balance balls, chair cushions and wobble stools allow them to wiggle and move while focusing on their learning. However, storing backpacks at their desks is not possible with this type of seating. In our room, backpacks are placed into 4 giant tubs. These tubs take up too much space, making it difficult for students to move about freely and safely. When full of backpacks, these tubs are quite cumbersome and heavy for our little daily helpers to lug outside.
A mobile backpack cart, with hooks for each child's backpack, will make storage a breeze!
Students place their backpack on their hook and two helpers roll it outside the classroom door! When a child needs to fetch something from their backpack, they simply find their hook and unzip their pack. (No more digging under 5 other backpacks and sweatshirts to access theirs in the tub!) At the end of the school day, two helpers roll it back inside. Easy!
