it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school special education students need computers!! It's 2009!
I teach a class of wonderfully curious and bright seventh grade students with mild disabilities in urban New York. I teach in a very high needs community. A large percentage of our students are English Language Learners, and nearly every student qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
My students love doing research on the computer. They take pride in typing up their essays and stories for publications. The students benefit from using computer programs and interactive websites to introduce and reinforce concepts that they learn in my class. Computers so often help to make learning fun. Moreover, technology skills are essential in today's world.
Yet, many of my students do not have a computer at home, or do not have Internet access. Worse, there are not enough working computers in our school to go around, so my students are being told that they will have to do without. My students lack basic skills in typing, using a word processor, and using the internet effectively to do meaningful research. We need at least one computer available to use IN the classroom EVERY DAY.
This Dell laptop is a sturdy, lightweight, inexpensive solution to our woes. I have personal experience using this particular notebook, and can attest to its durability and portability. Students will be able to use the laptop in a quiet corner or at their desks, and it is very affordable!!
Please make a contribution to our room! My students deserve the world. You can help them access a little piece of it in our room. You will bring smiles to many children every day of the year. More importantly, my students will be one step closer to getting the education they deserve.
