A Mouthpiece of My Own

My students need four individualized mouthpieces and four ligatures, so that they can share our larger saxophones in a sanitary way.

My Students

The students in band at our school, are enthusiastic about music, and want to broaden their horizons. They start out on 5 basic instruments, and look to expand our instrumentation and the breadth of their experiences by playing larger (and more expensive) instruments available.

Our school is in Los Angeles, and over half are on the free or reduced lunch program.

Despite the economic need, we provide a full band program for students grade 5 - 12 at our "span" school. The commitment to the program enables a large number of students to play in band up to 8 consecutive years as they grow in size, skills and enthusiasm for music!

My Project

We are requesting individualized mouthpieces and ligatures. The economics at our school make it difficult to provide instruments for all the students, so a large number share instruments with students in our other bands. We strive to provide enough mouthpieces so that each student has their own, while sharing the rest of the instrument with another.

Donations to this project will allow our students to feel more special in that they have something "of their own" to use and take care of, while needing to share the instrument with others.
