My students overcome challenges. At the minimum, 40% of our students are economically disadvantaged; yet they continue to strive to be college, career, and community ready. They yearn for opportunities to show their understanding, but often need a more visual and interactive approaches to learning rather than the more traditional ways we were taught as kids. They need our support and care; someone who sees their potential. My students struggle and may need second chances. They are important; they matter.
My Project
Technology is an important tool in education to inspire learning. Many of my students do not have access to working headphones, which makes it difficult to do Dreambox, Edpuzzle, and other learning programs available through our district. Our class sizes range between 28-35 students and these programs allow for more differentiation within the classroom, allowing students a more individualized learning experience. Headphones also would allow me to be able to offer a flipped classroom approach to learning, when my struggling students need a different learning environment to be successful. Students will then have more ownership in their learning, if they feel more connected to the teaching approach.
