My Students
We started a Career and Education in the Workplace course to help students that attend the technical school in our area. These kids will enter a trade as a career and my goal is to make them successful members of society. In my classroom, I gear the lessons for these kids who will go on to be employable and successful in the work field. In addition to the regular curriculum, I teach them soft skills like resume writing, phone and interviews skills, and how to write business letters.
These kids are still required to read novels, but the majority of them are at a 6th grade reading level.
The majority of these students are also special education students who require modified lessons to help them succeed not only in school, but in life.
My Project
My students need a CD player and headphones for my low-level learners. My students are 9th graders and the majority of them read at a middle school level. When they read on their own, they have a hard time understanding. When they are read to or they listen to the book or novel, they have a better understanding because they can hear the words and how they are pronounced.
Not only will the CD player help my low-level learners, but the headphones will also help them in the reading process.
The majority of the kids do not have technology at home and resources to help them, so most of the work is done in class. If they miss a chapter, they can listen to it on their own and work at their own pace.
