This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am faced with the challenge of teaching a love of reading to three fourth grade classes. My 60+ students will begin a journey through literature with me in August and I want to hook them with this beautifully written, and captivating book entitled The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
My brilliant and inquisitive students come from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of exposure to literature.
Many of my students have been learning together in the same classes since kindergarten, and I am excited to see them face this new challenge together.
My Project
As the reading and writing teacher, I hope to completely immerse the fourth graders in literature. Our daily reading lessons will include group discussions on the novel, independent reading, and plenty of writing. This novel will give my students the opportunity to enjoy reading and see and think beyond standardized test questions.
Without these books my children will be left to the district offered textbook, which they've been assigned year after year.
This novel is the opportunity to expose them to so much more.
