A Method to Our Madness: Method Books for Young Violinists

My Project

Music is our birthright, and every child deserves the chance to explore the potential within themselves. I am so honored to teach 4th and 5th grade string/orchestra students in four Richmond, Virginia elementary schools. All of my schools are "Title 1" schools. My students demonstrate every single day that they are capable of greatness when they have equitable access to necessary resources and supports.

Luckily, I have bumper crop of violin players this school year; but, we don't have enough METHOD BOOKS.

A method book provides a novice instrumental musician with the foundation skills to begin their musical journey. Our elementary orchestra instructional team has selected a new method book, one that is engaging, easy to understand, and developmentally appropriate. Sound Innovations is quickly becoming the gold standard for delivering instruction to beginning string musicians. These books will remain in our schools' orchestra library - students will return them at the end of each academic year to be re-used.

Your contribution will provide my students enough method books so that every child will have access to both an instrument AND a method book in order to practice AT-HOME. Studying music changes academic outcomes for students, provides solace in difficult times. The best time to introduce students to music is NOW. Thank you for your help!
