Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th and 7th grade mathematics at MS 223, The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology. We are a new middle school in the South Bronx. Over 95% of our students recieve free lunches from the federal government. That is a telling sign of the poverty and neglect that our students regularly face.
One major challenge for our school is the lack of space. We barely have enough room for classrooms and lack the space for a library. Many of our students are avid readers but lack good books to read. I teach math and many of my students have asked about reading books that deal with math.
To be honest I don't have a math library. I have researched books that teach math through literature. These books will not only help my students learn math but also improve their reading. These subjects are fundamental to their economic success in life. Please help fund this grant and help support the success of my students. Thank you for your kindness and support.
