I get the opportunity every day to teach ten awesome children! Now I didn’t say it’s easy; but it’s what I love to do. My students attend a large public school and some come from low-income households. Some students don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom. A few of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time.
My classroom is safe environment for children with Autism in Kindergarten/first grade, where I make rigorous but exciting lessons to spark their interests and make learning fun.
I love to teach my students using technology and hands on materials; giving them access to grade level curriculum. My goal is to teach my students that they may not be perfect but they are awesome!
Most students learn to form letters and numbers automatically given practice. Children with a poor motor plan must think out the way a letter is made. Dry Erase Markers and Whiteboards help alleviate the the sensory process that allows my students to complete and adapt to writing, using what they already know.
When teaching a child to write, there are many sensory processing to consider.
All components of handwriting require integration of our senses for accuracy, legibility, and performance. Constructing lessons that allow my students to complete their writing assignments on whiteboards with markers allows them to focus on the formation of the letters and the quality of their writing rather than than the sensory input a pencil and paper give.
