Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
First grade has been one of the most rewarding grades to teach. My students enter my classroom with the ability to read a few words, however they leave my classroom at the end of the school year not only reading entire books but loving the experience of reading and learning. Their minds are like sponges and they absorb all that I have to teach them while teaching me just as much.
Teaching first grade gives me the opportunity to install a love of learning in my students.
A love that follows them through the rest of school and hopefully throughout their lives.
I love waking up every morning knowing I get to see those loving faces, expand those growing minds, and teach as well as learn. I can not imagine a more rewarding job. I truly love what I do.
My Project
A classroom rug provides students with a comfortable space to gather, learn and share their thinking. Students can sit comfortably in their own space to learn with their peers as well as sprawl out on the rug during their independent and partner reading time.
The classroom rug is where our best learning takes place.
The rug creates a space where I can teach and my students can learn. I can see each of their faces, hear their thoughts that they share with one another, and share with them, in close proximity, all of the wonderful things I have to teach them.
