Do you remember your first day of kindergarten? Do you remember the smile on your teacher's face, the anticipation of making new friends and learning new things? I am lucky enough to be teaching in the same school that I went to as a kindergartener, and now it's my turn to be that teacher for my students.
As a first year teacher, I am passionate about and dedicated to providing my students with the best possible school experience, but I need more resources in order to do so.
Over 33% of students in my school speak a language other than English as their first language, and over 37% of students are economically disadvantaged, but each and every student brings something special to the table. Every student has their strength, their passion, their "thing."
In order to reach all students, there are several things that I need to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, and with your help that will all be possible. This project will allow my first year as the classroom teacher to be the year that shows students that school is a safe, enjoyable place to learn and grow.
My Project
My students need these materials so that we can create a positive classroom environment where each student feels that their individual needs are being met. The classroom rug will be a place where we all meet to begin our day, get to know each other in the first few weeks of school, and continue learning throughout the school year. The book display will allow students to discover new titles, genres and authors that relate to specific themes, but it will also be a great way to introduce students to diverse books as they become readers. Finally, the flexible seating options will be used to ensure that all students feel that they are learning in a manner that best suits their strengths and styles.

Despite being a first year teacher, it is important to me that I find ways to allow for optimal learning to occur in my classroom.
