A Magic Carpet for Our Class
My students need a carpet to sit on during whole group instruction to keep them warm, comfy and focused during learning.
Imagine being a 2nd grader and having to sit on a cold, hard floor of a portable classroom while listening to your teacher. It wouldn't be very comfortable! We need a large carpet that has a designated spot for everyone to keep my students engaged and comfortable.
I teach in a very diverse school where the students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
Many of my students rely on school to be the one constant positive area of their life. I love teaching 2nd grade because the students are so eager to learn and have such wonderful imaginations.
The majority of my teaching takes place with the students altogether on the carpet. Whether I'm reading aloud a story, modeling how to write a friendly letter, teaching a math group about division, or simply having a classroom meeting, we are congregated together on the floor. We will be moving into a portable classroom this year and if my students don't receive this carpet, they will have to sit on a cold and uncomfortable floor. I don't want to sit on the hard floor and neither should my students. They will be much more engaged if they are comfortable. The carpet I am requesting also has colorful squares so the students have a clear boundary of where their spot is. This will help students keep their hands to themselves and be more attentive for learning.
My students need this carpet so they can enjoy our many activities that take place together on the carpet.
I want my students to be actively engaged during learning and this carpet will help them do that.
