Can you imagine never leaving your neighborhood? Many of my students have no means of transportation to leave their own home. I want to bring the rest of the world to my students using Time for Kids magazine.
My students live in a high-poverty environment.
They don't often get out of town, much less their neighborhood to see what the rest of the world is like. Their world view is often very small. Some of them don't have a concept of a city, state, nation,etc. However, they are all ears when learning about the world and all its interesting parts.
My Project
I am requesting a class set of Time for Kids magazine. Nonfiction can often be boring for students. However, Time for Kids is the opposite of boring. The students are immediately drawn to its real photos and diagrams which include all the nonfiction traits. The students are tested on many forms of nonfiction. This magazine allows them to view the real world and become globally aware of its topics. Also, for each student to have their own magazine makes it that much more special.
Students don't often understand the world outside of their own home or neighborhood.
They don't realize all the opportunity out there for them as they grow. Bringing the world to my children by way of Time for Kids is a colorful and informational blessing. They will treasure their personal magazine and all the worldly information it contains.
