Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."- Charles William Elliot
Our students are incredible critical thinkers who love to ask questions, challenge themselves in reading, writing, and math, and make connections between the books they read and their personal lives.
Our school is a Title I School located in the heart of the Bronx. Our student population is very diverse and most of them come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, receiving free/reduced price lunch.
My Project
The leveled books will engage my students in fiction books that cater to their interests and provide them access in reading about their favorite characters. Our students will utilize the books to develop and advance their literacy skills, as the leveled books not only engage them in seeing how their favorite characters act in a text but also allow them to practice their reading powers and reading strategies. In reading these leveled books, students will be able to deepen their comprehension through developing inferences, making predictions what is going to happen in the book, making connections between the book and their lives, and allowing them to question about their favorite characters. The magnetic letters will provide my students the ability to build sight words and CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words, as many of them are kinesthetic learners.
