My students need Accelerated Reader books on their level and about their interests in order to foster a love for reading while also meeting academic requirements.
In just a few short weeks, 21 intelligent, kind, and loving first graders will walk into our classroom for the very first time. Each one of these children is unique, coming from a variety of family structures, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
I believe that they are capable of changing our world for the better, but we must first equip them with the skills they need in order to make a difference.
Being located so close to a military base, our school serves many military families, and this adds to the very diverse classroom environment. Among them, they have a variety of learning goals, needs, and aspirations. It is my goal, as their teacher, to meet each and every one of them where they are at and help them get to where they want to go.
My Project
The books provided through this project will help keep my students interested in reading while also rewarding their efforts. Among many of the titles chosen for this project are popular series such as Fly Guy, Little Critter, Elephant and Piggie, and Mercy Watson.
This project will foster a love for reading in my children by giving them choice, which is so important as they are just beginning to read.
With the use of these books, my students will be able to read about what they are interested in and what books they like while also being able to meet their academic goals for Accelerated Reader. The purpose of this project is to bridge the gap between what my students must do in order to meet academic requirements and what they want to do because they enjoy it.
