My students need a variety of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and high interest titles that students will be excited to read.
My students are second graders with hearts of gold and eager to learn.
They come in the door everyday with smiles on their faces, in spite of the challenges they face everyday. My students come from a small community with vast socio-economic diversity. My school is currently about 70% poverty and many students are considered at-risk. They are full of curiosity and wonder. They ask questions, want to learn more about topics that interest them and are curious to research.
In our Reader's Workshop, which is 60 minutes a day, the students are able to read self-selected books during Independent reading time. They are also engaged in a variety of literacy activities such as listening to books, literacy games, writing about reading, researching their topics of interest, and guided reading with the teacher. In funding this project, you will be putting high interest books in the hands of children that are eager to learn. They will have books that they can read during Independent reading time that are at their current reading level. I am requesting a variety of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and high interest titles that students will be excited to read.
