Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright and funny 8, 9, and 10 year olds. Even though they face many life challenges, they show determination and grit everyday!b Moreover, they are compassionate and caring students that look after each other and our classroom community. They shine as leaders not only in the classroom, but in the entire school.
Coming from a small rural area, my students are often labeled as disadvantaged.
However, they have high expectations for themselves. They set personal and academic goals for themselves and they go after those goals with tenacity!
My Project
My school is fortunate to have a visual art program. However, like many elementary schools, music is no longer funded. Research shows that musical education develops the part of the brain responsible for language and reasoning. Additionally, students that learn music put more effort into their other academics. By having regular access to recorders and percussion instruments, students will begin learning the basics of musical training. This education in music will grow their brains and figuratively and literally.
Without access to these materials my students will not have the opportunity to develop a love of music that will elevate their academics.
