A Long Walk to Water- Bringing Culture to the Classroom
Help me give my students a class set of the book A Long Walk to Water. This novel is based on a true story and will give my students the opportunity to learn about a different culture.
My students are creative, deep thinkers that love to be challenged! The especially love experiences that allow them to see and do things they never thought possible!
The students I serve are 6th graders at a rural middle school in West Virginia.
Our campus is at the top of a mountain and surrounded by some of the most beautiful valleys in the state.
My classroom is set up for cooperative learning environment and my students love the opportunity to get up, move, and work with their peers. They are a very outgoing group of students and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with each and everyone of them. The energy they bring to my classroom daily is nothing short of contagious.
My Project
My students love to experience things that are outside of the daily norms. By having the book, A Long Walk to Water, my students will get to read a true story of the Sudan culture.
This project, when funded, will allow my students the opportunity to experience what it is like inside the heart and mind of a refugee.
We often watch the news in our classroom, and my students hear about refugees. However, it is difficult for them to fully understand a topic without getting to take a deeper look. The funding from this project will do just that!
