My Students

Hey, Y'all! South Carolina is full of so many unique places, opportunities, and people. I am fortunate to teach approximately one hundred twenty of them every single day. I serve these special students in a sixth grade Social Studies class where we investigate, read, create, draw, and analyze as much as we can. We are located in an urban area, right outside of Charleston.

We're surrounded by history, and we can't wait to contribute to it!

Our community is so important to us. We want to make sure we're cultivating positive and productive citizens!

My Project

Sixth grade social studies is all about our world's ancient history. In contrast, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park occurs in modern time. This juxtaposition of time creates the perfect opportunity for students to analyze, infer, compare, and contrast across time and contents. Gifted and talented students live for this opportunity, and I would love the chance to give it to them!

Our gifted and talented population is often overlooked because "they get it." Though their intelligence and creativity is undeniable, their needs are not always met in the traditional classroom setting.

They need challenges. They need the opportunity to think outside the box and make connections. It is my hope to give my gifted and talented students an independent study of A Long Walk to Water, while teaching the developments, traditions, and geography of Ancient Africa. Their studies will culminate as we compare, contrast, and draw conclusions between the ancient and modern world.
