Help me give my students the tablets for specific learning activities in small groups rotations during ELA and Math!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My school is located in Harlem and it is a Title 1 school which means most of the students come from low-income households. I currently have 13 five-year-old students with more than half of them are being raised by single mothers, grandparents or parents who do no speak English. It took a while but my students have finally adjusted to the big jump from Pre-K to Kindergarten! They have worked really hard and have grown so much since the beginning of the school year. They have all but one student have moved up at least one reading level and almost everyone has moved up a level in counting, numerations, and addition and subtraction. My goal is for them to go above and beyond Kindergarten expectations; to be well-ready for first grade!
These eager learners deserve a classroom with the resources and supplies that allow them to practice and develop the concepts and skills that they are learning.
Since they have demonstrated that they can be responsible learners, that is why I would like to add technology to their learning routine.
Recently, a growing number of studies have focused on the negativity of increased screen time for children but it is all about how technology is being utilized. These tablets will only be used as an extension to their learning because I will assign individualized activities that challenge their thinking and games which gives them a fun way to practice what they've learned. I will also get to keep track of their progress and use it to modify their learning goals to match their skill levels. And the students will have something different to look forward to at center time throughout the week with rotations.
