Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic early learners within a large public school in a city with a high poverty rate. Many of my students face challenges in their home lives each day due to low socioeconomic status. All of my students qualify for free or reduced-price meals and have both breakfast and lunch within our classroom. Most of my students are English Language Learners, with Spanish being their home language.
I strive to provide my students with a high quality classroom environment that supports the development of all students.
Early childhood education plays a crucial role in the development of each individual child's educational future. I feel that it is my responsibility as an early childhood educator to provide my students with these resources needed to promote success.
My Project
With a new listening center, my students will be able to listen to stories on their own through CD read-alouds. The wireless headphones allow the three- and four-year-old students in our inclusion classroom to avoid the frustration which comes from the need to be plugging in or working through tangled headphones. The Bluetooth speaker allows the wireless headphones to connect with ease at a touch of a single button. Developing this listening center allows our students to have a hands-on method of learning about our curriculum themes through interactive books and read-alouds.
It is very important that our students have the resources to build the background knowledge necessary to succeed in the evolving world of education.
Having accessibility to materials allows for spontaneous learning opportunities that foster students' confidence in meeting their own educational needs. I feel that allowing opportunities for these successes helps to establish and build educational confidence and exploration at such a young age.
