My students always have stories to tell, no matter what the occasion. They love to tell others about the happenings in their lives and I most certainly am always entertained by them. Even on the toughest of days, there is a student or two who makes not only myself smile, but other students as well.
The school district I teach is incredibly diverse.
Whether it is diversity based on race, culture, socio-economic status or the like, my students come to class with a variety of personal experiences and differences. I have students who are fortunate enough to have technology at home, to which they can use on a regular basis. However, I also have students who do not have that privilege, which is why organizations like Donorschoose are so important.
It is my dream to have a technologically-rich classroom, to keep up with the needs and interests of my students. As the years change, students change, and technology changes as well. We must adapt our classrooms to best meet their needs, and providing the best environment with abundant resources does just that.
Often, students in my classes become hungry throughout the day. Even though many receive breakfast, some still do not in the morning and thus struggle to maintain focus throughout the day. This is why it is so important to provide snacks such as pretzels and water. Many times, students are better able to focus on the task at-hand when they have some sort of food to eat, thus reinforcing the idea of "brain food". They love their occasional treat as well, which acts as an additional motivator on special days.
Without having much to eat in the morning (let alone the day), it is tough for students to get the most out of school.
Sometimes the only substantial food they receive during the day comes from when they are in school, which is why it is so critical to ensure they have ample food to eat throughout the day, especially since our grade level has the earliest lunch.
