Help me give my students books that will provide my library learners the opportunity to read and vote to select the 2019-2020 Louisiana Young Reader's Choice sponsored by the State Library.
At our school, our goal is to maximize the potential of each individual student towards higher achievement. We have a diverse population of fourth and fifth graders; our students come from a variety of economic backgrounds and have unique educational needs. Additionally, we are located near BAFB and serve many military children.
At our school, we want our students to be lifelong learners, readers, and responsible citizens!!
To promote literacy and civic responsibility, I would love to incorporate the Louisiana Young Reader's Choice program into our school library this year.
My Project
As the librarian, I see the entire student population on a weekly basis and always try to provide our students with a little something "extra." The Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award is a program sponsored by the State Library of Louisiana to foster a love of reading. Each year books are nominated and fifteen are selected to be considered for the honor. The books included within this project provide reading materials on various levels, subject matters, and genres.
The LYRC list for grades 3-5 includes titles for reluctant readers as well as titles to challenge more mature and advanced readers.
Students must read at least three titles to participate in the voting process. Additionally, any student reading all fifteen titles will receive a signed certificate from the State Librarian. Through participation in the program, students are encouraged to read high-quality fiction and nonfiction texts and become active in the democratic process.
