Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our STEAM Magnet school are special because we follow a CLEAR vision: Community, Leadership, Empathy, Academic Integrity and Reflection.
As a STEAM magnet, it is imperative that our students utilize technology as they take a deep dive into the sciences and engineering processes.
This year we are focused on the ISTE Standard: Innovative Designer. Learning about the design process and how we can leverage technology to solve real-world problems is our focus for 2018-2019. Students utilize two alternative spaces, the Design Lab (makerspace) and Media Lab, to engage in their work.
We are a school that serves approximately 300 students with greater than 75% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our families come from Mexico, Latin America, Africa, Philippines, Japan, Korea and America. We are a community tucked into a small neighborhood of Los Angeles and have been around standing for over 30 years. We are proud to have a CLEAR vision to drive our learning!
My Project
We are a STEM school that is working so hard to expose our students to the ever changing world of technology. We want to educate our children in a way that will prepare them for jobs and careers that don't even exist yet.
I bought an iPad that I want to bring into classrooms to deliver lessons.
If I had an Apple pencil I could deliver interactive lessons and illustrate stories. The pencil would allow me to model problem solving for groups of children to see. Since building leadership is a big part of our school's vision, I would also love for the students to model their thinking using the pencil and my iPad for their classmates! (I am also asking for a case for my iPad since young fingers are sometimes slippery.)
