This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a variety of cultures, with over half of our school population consisting of non-native English speakers. Much of our population consists of students of deployed, reintegration, or retired military personnel. This can sometimes create barriers to traditional and conventional teaching. Despite the challenges they face, they are still energetic, fun-loving, and eager to learn.
The students we serve are eager to learn and trust in knowing we will provide them with as much love as possible.
My kids are awesome, funny, and happy students who work together to build a great community. I am the ambassador of their education and want to make sure they have lasting memories of their academic years.
My Project
Recently, our school environment as we know it has changed. Our students and their families are on an emotional roller coaster with the onset of virtual learning. Although our school doors may be temporarily closed, the social and emotional needs of our students and their families is still important and I am even more dedicated to continuing to support the social and emotional needs of my students, even virtually. As a school counselor, I am always looking for great books to encourage kindness, empathy, love and trust.
I have always loved the simple message a good book can invoke and these books will teach students how to address many emotions from anxiety to responsibility to kindness.
The books in this project are even more important now, in helping me support my students while we are learning from home. I intend to continue counseling lessons, just as if I were in the school building through our schools' social media platform and these "Little Spot" books will offer perfect nuggets of encouragement.
