A Listening Center Would Help My English Learners! Help us!
My students need a listening center to help them access the stories we read in class, while developing their English Language skills. We need resources for all our kids!
Can you imagine trying to learn a new language, adjusting to cultural changes, and trying to keep up with the curriculum all at the same time? Many of my students do that every year! We need materials that will help our English learners have access to what we're learning in class.
We are a California Title 1 school, and we have many students that come to us from different countries--India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mexico, Afghanistan, etc.
We take pride in having a diverse school that is welcoming of all cultures! We need to provide them the opportunity to learn English and have access to a great education. A listening center would help our English Learners, and even our English speakers, hear fluency and expression. When they can't read the words yet, they would be able to listen and develop the story by connecting their listening to the words in the book. Please welcome international students by helping us provide them with resources that will help them make an easier transition to an American school!
My Project
To supplement our curriculum, a listening center would help our beginning English readers have a chance to start comprehending a story, even if they can't read the words. Listening to a story will help them develop many skills, starting at phonics all the way to comprehension. It is an excellent way to help all of our readers listen to a good model of reading, with fluency and expression.
We have students that learn in a variety of ways.
Students that can't access the words in a book by reading need another way to learn. A listening center is a powerful and simple way to let kids ENJOY a story, and in turn learn from it. Thank you for considering this project. Our kids will truly benefit.
