This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in low-economic neighborhood in the Roxbury area. Our classroom consists of twenty-two students with a range of skills and needs. The students are incredible children who are always excited to come to school to grow and learn. They are kind, creative, smart, and hard working. They love spending time in our library reading, looking at pictures, cuddling up with a book buddy (stuffed animal), and sharing their excitement for reading with one another. They would love the opportunity to explore new books and challenge their thinking even more!
My Project
A library is at the heart of a first grade classroom. It allows students to engage with books, inspiring their creativity and providing them access to a world beyond our four classroom walls! At this age, students should be engaged in reading throughout the school day and should be able to take home their books to enjoy and practice with their families.
All student should have access to a library that excites and supports them as readers.
While my students are eager to explore the books in our classroom library, books at their reading level are extremely limited. As students grow through different levels, there aren't enough books to support all of their needs. Additionally, the limited supply of books means that students are unable to take them home and further develop their love for reading.
I am asking for donations to go towards our classroom library. With your help, we can add more books to our library so that students will be able to read and enjoy texts that are appropriate for them. Your donation will also provide bags that will allow students to take their books home to continue to develop their reading with their families. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom!
