A Library Supporting Rich Literature for an Author Study
My students need multiple copies of books written by Mo Willems. This is an author study in kindergarten. His books are motivating and engaging for all learners.
This project expired on September 5, 2013.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
One of the things that I really enjoy about kindergarten is reading aloud to my students. Reading is one of the most important things I teach and expose my students to. I do this by offering a variety of author studies. I focus on books that are engaging, funny, and interesting for all learners.
My students are curious, inquisitive, and very excited about learning.
They love to read and be read to. They enjoy learning about different authors and their style of writing. They enjoy interacting with the books we read by retelling the stories themselves! They use iPads to create video and podcasts about the books they read. They enjoy making observations and connections with what we read in books to what we are learning about during our reader's and writer's workshop.
In kindergarten, I am always trying to provide a variety of texts for my students. Variety is important because all children have lots of different interests and you never know from year to year what might be found most exciting and motivating. I have found a couple of authors that my students seem to enjoy each year. My students really enjoy Mo Willem's books. These books are easy to read and have an exciting story and plot. The books also have many of the features that we focus on during our writer's and reader's workshop time. This is really important because if my students are interested in the stories we read, they then want to create their own story. Many times over the years I have seen how excited my students get when reading and looking at books by Mo Willems. In my classroom, all my students would really benefit from having multiple copies of this author because it is a study I pursue each year because my students are so motivated and engaged with the books.
This project will really make a difference for my students because it will provide multiple copies of the books we read.
The multiple copies will ensure that all my students have equal access to the books which they enjoy and find interesting.
