I have an amazing group of 3rd graders this year. They are a kind-hearted bunch, but my favorite thing about them is their eagerness to learn! Working in a small school, I am fortunate enough to be able to get to know all of the students in the building, not just my grade level. I have been excited this summer, knowing the group of students I have coming into 3rd grade this year. They are a group that I know will inspire me to be a better teacher, because of their absolute love of learning!
My Project
This year my school recently purchased a new reading curriculum through Scholastic. With this curriculum our students will have access to an enormous e-library. Unfortunately, my classroom does not have the tablets needed to access this library.
3rd grade truly opens the door to the love of reading!
Unlike primary grade levels, where students focus on learning HOW to read, in 3rd grade students are proficient enough to start to FALL IN LOVE with chapter books; the majority of them for the first time.
This project will help me to give my students access to literary favorites such as: The Little House Series, The Boxcar Children, Stuart Little, and Charlotte's Web. It will also give my students access to new books that were currently published. In reading I encourage my students to find stories that speak to them, and that they can fall in love with. These tablets will give my students the opportunity to select and try out books they otherwise would not have access too!
