My students are excited about learning! They love new opportunities and the chance to experience new things. They are very respectful students who come to school every day excited about what they will learn. They love incorporating technology into our activities.
My school is in a low income area, where over 70% of students receive free or reduced price lunch.
Many students do not have access to computers at home. I love presenting them with opportunities to use technology and learn new things because they truly enjoy every minute of it. Their smiles and motivation to be the best they can be is my inspiration and my reason for teaching.
My Project
As a primary teacher I have an extensive library library of picture books, beginning readers, and beginning chapter books. Moving grade levels is an exciting opportunity, but it requires change in many areas. One of the areas that my classroom will need to change is the classroom library. The students in the upper elementary grades will not benefit from my current library selection.
A classroom library is a chance for a teacher to connect with each student as a reader.
I want to offer my students selections that are grade level appropriate and at their reading levels. The selections in these packs from Scholastic will allow me to begin building a classroom library that is appropriate for upper elementary.
After reading "The Book Whisperer" I want to incorporate a book challenge with my students next year. The current selections in my classroom library do not have the variety to make this a reality. I need to offer students books in all genres and at a variety of reading levels. These selections will help us get started in our book challenge so we can all become avid readers who love to pick up a new book a read.
