Students change so much from seventh to eighth grade. What doesn't change is their need for a GOOD book. It only takes one book to change the way students feel about reading. I am so fortunate to witness this magic happen with my students. My students love to read because they never settle; no matter how long it takes, they persevere until they find the right book!
For some students, my classroom is the first time that they lose themselves in a piece of fiction or see themselves in a character.
Some of my students are already avid readers who read beyond their grade level. Others are reluctant to read independently without the guidance and partnership of a teacher. It is my goal to get all of my students to read recreationally by the end of their middle school experience.
My Project
Not all children have the opportunity and access to read high-interest books. In my eight years teaching middle school, I have had so many students who have never experienced the joy of a good book.
It only takes that one experience of losing themselves in a book for students to become hooked on reading.
Nothing brings me more joy than a student finishing a book and asking me for more.
With so many students and so many interests, it is impossible for me to buy all the books that the students want. Please help me fill my classroom library with the books my students want!
