I am a Literacy Coach at P.S. 119 in Brooklyn, NY. I have collected many books over my 11 years of teaching. When I was in the classroom, I would lend them out to my students. It was very rewarding when a child would come back after borrowing a book with a smile, eagerly asking for another. I have brought my collection of books with me I have continued to lend them to students who visit my office. Now as a Literacy Coach I am helping teachers implement Balanced Literacy in their classrooms and have begun to lend books to teachers. It is also rewarding, when they express their gratitude for sharing ideas for a lesson that goes with a book. Right now all of my books are in old milk crates. I would love to have real bookcases to place my books in. I feel it would make the lending library in my office a more inviting space. I enjoy sharing my love of reading and watching it spread throughout the school.
