This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students do not know how special and important they are. Most of them come from families with a low socioeconomic status, and they experience various hardships in their personal lives. Despite the struggles they have, they are incredibly talented and capable of success.
With the basic and instructional support materials, my students will be equipped to perform at a higher academic level in my classroom.
One goal I have this year is for my students to improve their literacy skills by reading more in Spanish. Adding books to my classroom library will help them to reach this goal.
My Project
These basic classroom supplies and instructional support materials, including leveled readers in Spanish, will help my students to reach their language proficiency goals. I will provide scaffolding to help improve their literacy skills in both Spanish and English. The other classroom supplies will enable my students to better process and comprehend what they have read. My goal is to continually make Spanish input comprehensible to my students so they are able to acquire the language. Providing my students with books that are designed for beginning/intermediate Spanish learners will help to expand their vocabulary immensely and to give them more choice in their learning.
