An unraveling brown and murky purple rug isn't as inviting as a bright colored learning rug with rainbow colors and shapes. In kindergarten, it is important to have a colorful learning environment that is welcoming!
I have 21 bright young kindergartners between the ages of 5 and 6, who are excited to learn new things every day.
Our public school is a full day kindergarten program in Alaska. For some students, this is their first experience in a school setting. We go to school 9 months out of the year and enjoy the winters here!
My Project
We would love a new learning rug that is bright, inviting, and educational. The rug that we have chosen will help with classroom management and helping students learn about personal space. Students will no longer be distracted by the unraveling edges and give their full attention to the lesson. The rug will also teach us about colors and shapes which tie into our math and literacy curriculum. We spend a lot of time at the carpet doing activities and instruction, so it would be so nice to have a comfy, clean, and bright place to sit!
This rug is going into its 7th year of use and has been well used.
I
am constantly trying to save the unraveling rug by taping and hot gluing the edges, but because it is falling apart, students have a tendency to pick at the loose strings. It would be so great to have their full attention during a lesson and also not have to spend time applying first aid to our old rug! We would love your support in donating a new learning rug to our classroom! Thank you!
