Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who are my students? They are future engineers, mathematicians, philosophers, doctors, lawyers, or anything they can dream of! The children in my classroom are curious, resilient, persevere, intelligent, and above all, compassionate. They care for each other and they show it every day in their actions! Although they are only 5 years old, they are wise beyond their years. They go out of their way to include all of their classmates in activities and never let someone sit alone. They truly are an impressive little bunch!
My Project
The online program, Starfall.com is an engaging, fun tool that all students can use to supplement their learning. However, struggling students and advanced students can use this engaging website to scaffold their foundational literacy and math skills. The compact, portable DVD players and accompanying Leap Frog literacy and math videos will help my most struggling students to continue learning their alphabet and numbers while their higher-level peers are working on word building.
At this point in the school year, most students have mastered all of their letters, corresponding sounds and numbers; however, a small group of my students are still struggling quite a bit and desperately need something extra to help them master these critical foundational skills.
Having their own personal DVD player to watch these high-quality videos will give them an additional avenue in which they can practice letters and numbers so that they too can start building words!
