Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in grades nine through twelve, plus additional years of vocational transition (ages 15-21). We are a small, public school tucked away in the beautiful mountains. We are avid outdoor adventurers, and our lessons are geared towards Community-Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI).
My Project
This is the first year our high school has a recognized Unified Bowling Team.
A Unified Bowling team consists of students with intellectual disabilities and partners them with students without intellectual disabilities.
This is only the second year for the Colorado High School Sanctioned sport.
Our team placed 6th in our region. We had to drive 4 hours (each way) to Pueblo, Colorado, in one day. My students had so much fun and it was such an exciting experience.
We need a practice bowling lane at our school because our closest bowling alley is over an hour away. The alley opens at 1:00 pm, so our time is limited, as my students ride the special transportation bus and need to be back at school by 3:45. Twice this year, the bowing alley was closed due to low staffing and we had no warning so we did not find out until we arrived.
