This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at an incredibly diverse school and have never had a group of students with such an eagerness and willingness to learn. At school we focus on personalizing education in order to increase student motivation. My school works hard to create a community atmosphere while building the foundational skills necessary for future success.
My students are learning critical thinking skills in order to improve their academic performance.
The students set goals and learn how to work towards those goals in a safe and stable learning environment. Through building relationships with the families and children, I have learned that my first kindergarteners have the attitude and ability needed to work hard everyday to be successful. The students at my school are resilient and amazing!
My Project
Kindergarteners enjoy learning and need hands-on experiences with age appropriate manipulatives to build a solid foundation in math. At this age, they are working toward understanding that numbers are made up of tens and ones. This concept sets the stage for future complex math ideas.
The value of a ten frame is that it allows the students to "see" the way numbers are composed and make observations about what numbers really mean.
This leads to future concepts such as addition and subtraction. The materials I am requesting will engage the students as they explore numbers and build fluency in the critical learning area of math.
