My students need an Apple iPad to utilize a program called The Social Express. The students do not have access to any electronic devices during counseling sessions. This would expand their learning opportunities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with 45 incredible students that are learning how to develop social-emotional skills. We are a NYC public school located in a low socioeconomic area in the South Bronx, servicing children with various special needs. Most of my students have a classification of autism and need support in learning skills to promote socialization and engagement as they progress into adulthood. As a school psychologist, my goal is to enhance my service to students and families in a way that is relatable, fun, and promotes learning in all areas of social-emotional development.
My Project
My students need the addition of visually animated resources to engage them in the process of learning socialization skills by identifying body language, social cues, and social situations they may encounter in various settings.
Your generosity and support to this project will improve the students' ability to identify ways to develop, initiate and maintain relationships as they progress through life.
The Social Express is a "program that is based on best practices and programs that feature cognitive behavioral techniques and visual strategies such as social stories, and comic strip conversations. "The activities presented in the software also adhere to the ELA (English, Language, Arts) Common Core Standards." -The Social Express.
Although my practices involve modeling, role play, and other evidence-based materials, having the ability to view animated social situations on an iPad would greatly enhance the students' interest and engagement in the process of acquiring such skills.
