My students need these book sets to learn basic social emotional skills. Children learn best when their emotions are in check and these books will help me get them there.
Teaching in a low income school has been a great blessing to me. My students have taught me not to take anything for granted and to enjoy the little things in life. Many of my students crave attention, love, and the opportunity to learn and shine.
My young, special education students come to school with little experience of the world outside of their home.
Though they are full of energy and life, they have trouble sitting still, getting along with others, controlling their actions, and understanding how their actions affect others.
These children need structure, support and the knowledge to become active, thriving members of our community. It is a joy to teach them everyday and I work my hardest to meet their academic and social emotional needs in any way I can.
My Project
The book resources I am seeking are books that tie real-life experiences to social emotional and academic learning. The books support social skills in four major themes: "I Have Feelings," "I Get Along With Others," "I am in control of Myself," and "I Believe in Myself." Each theme has a set of books that will assist me to teach children how to take control of their actions and be thriving participants at school and home.
I believe teaching social emotional skills are key in children's academic success.
I am excited to see how this will positively change and affect their lives in the classroom and in the community they live in.
