My students are creative, full of energy and thoughtful. They show me the simple things in life. Often times my students struggle with attention, focus, self-regulation and sensory needs that are beyond the regular education setting. Help me, help my students with disabilities find peace and tranquility in our very own sensory room.
I am requesting resources in order to build a sensory room, within our school, for students who need a quiet space to decompress or sensory process.
The requested materials include a light cover, bubble machine, bean bags, bounce balls, multicolored lamps, etc. These materials will be set up in a special room or space within the school and children will sensory needs or behavior issues will be able to go into the room and decompress or sensory process. It will be a positive space for the students to feel safe and it will help them take charge of their bodies and their environment.
My Project
Several students struggle to regulate their bodies and emotions throughout the school day, which then in turn makes them miss instruction for longer periods of time. A sensory room would help students feel safe and regulate their bodies to be successful as learners.
The bean bag, weighted blanket, bubble lamp, light filters and lamp will give students a comfortable place to regulate and feel safe.
The lamps and filters will bring a calm feeling to the room. The weighted blankets will give students pressure when they need to be regulated and the bean bag chair will be a comfortable spot for students to be calm.
