I have a wonderful group of 3rd graders this year! They are enthusiastic to learn and love to be engaged in activities. My students will often tell me different ways to solve math problems, and really enjoy game-like learning activities. My students are extremely excited about math, and I typically would have them doing and experiencing concepts in a fun and engaging atmosphere. However, it can be a challenge to bring engaging activities to the students when teaching hybrid and remotely. Also, in 3rd grade, the students begin to do our state testing for the first time. It can be quite demanding on the students to learn the variety of skills that is expected of them.
My Project
The jumpstart Academy Math program will create an exciting and engaging atmosphere for students while learning challenging math concepts. Children will master core math concepts through assigned lessons or by independently progressing through a series of practice levels across four math domains: Operations, Measurement and Data, Fractions, and Geometry. There is also an extremely important part in the program for Fact Fluency. Some of the skills the students will learn deal with using operations in base ten; and algebraic thinking, representing and interpreting data, manipulating wholes into equal parts, and familiarizing with shape categories.
Students will be able to feel confident in taking part in math lessons and activities.
The fluency will help them complete assignments and activities accurately, without hesitation. The children get to design their own avatar to take along on their learning adventure. They will earn coins to buy unique clothing pieces and accessories. As a teacher, I will be able to increase interest and engagement in math at home and school with collaborative games, exciting team based multiplayer games, individualized play, and a personalized experience.
