Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our favorite chant is, "In our class we try and try again!"
My students come from a high poverty school district where 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
The challenges that face them at home are almost insurmountable. Curious, excited, and willing to work hard, my students love coming to school! They thrive in a creative environment where they help set their learning goals and are provided with multiple ways to learn and solve problems. Hard work is rewarded and relationships are built and nourished. My hope is to instill in each student a lifelong love of learning!
My Project
I am so excited to be starting hands on literacy centers this year! I am going to use the sight word game to build team work and collaboration by engaging my students in their memorization of sight words through games. I will offer centers that allow them to build words using the magnetic letters and word cards. I will increase spelling accuracy through word games, dot spelling, and sentence building. By using hands on literacy centers my students will become engaged in their learning.. My students will learn the skills they need to be lifelong readers through these hands on literacy centers that build phonemic awareness, sight word recognition, and word building skills. Together we can!
