Technology is the base of all learning. From reading programs to a variety of math skills, technology allows each learner to be at their own level and concentrate on their needs and strengths. Our students deserve a chance to experience that!
Our class is located in an urban city in New Jersey.
Students at our charter school often come from homes that are in greatest need of assistance. Although many students come from low income families, they have a passion for learning. However they never get the chance to experience technology style learning. Our classroom follows the sheltered model that contains both English and Spanish speaking students.
I am requesting 1 mini iPad for the students in our class to share. Studies have shown that elementary learners are visual and kinesthetic learners. Many of our students live in homes that lack technology for our students to use. The iPad has so many amazing applications and Internet-based games that can reach a variety of different levels of learners.
In our school, we have chosen a math program that relies heavily on technology to demonstrate each lesson and gives an extra enrichment. Without an iPad, our students will lose out on these experiences. Along with math, our grade has chosen a new reading program that is very interactive. They offer a full computer program and an apple application that offers a full reading library. The program has each leveled story and many extra games to reach all learners. These are just a few examples of the many activities that we could use with an iPad.
Giving our students the opportunity to experience this new technology will have so many benefits.
You have the chance to make a enormous impact on our students' everyday lives. Being in a co-teach special education classroom will benefit greatly from having an iPad so that each and every learner can learn at their own personal level, and most importantly, by having fun!
