I am a kindergarten teacher at PS 104 in Brooklyn. As part of our curriculum, we teach reading and writing a "how to" book. I have 25 hungry students who would love to find out how to make pizza. It would be wonderful to read, write and then actually make the pizza. I would love to put this all together as a great learning experience. The children would come to a full circle on "how to make pizza." This experience can come alive by taking my class to a restaurant right near our school. It would also be considered a community walk. We have a restaurant called Pizzeria Uno about 5 blocks away. They have a special workshop where the children can make their own individual pizza. They get to prepare the dough, sauce and extra toppings all by themselves. As the pizza is cooking in the oven, the children will also be making their own ice-cream sundaes (another "how to"). The finished product will be delicious. I hope you can help my little pizza makers become real chefs. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
