Ms. Chatman from Kalamazoo MI is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need more to READ! It would be a great gift to them and their families if they could take home their very own reading materials to practice at home.

How often do you stop at the grocery store and pick up a magazine to read? My students rarely have an opportunity to engage with this important genre of reading material. This subscription and the mini books would provide them access to reading materials that they might not otherwise get at home.
My students are bright, energetic, and needs lot of love and attention.
They don't always have backpacks or coats but they all have someone in their life who is doing all they can to help support their children all while trying to make ends meet. For many of my students Kindergarten is their first experience in an organized school environment, so we are busy learning about school and how to read!
These materials would be sent home with each child as part of their weekly homework packet. Non-fiction material is one of the most popular things my students want to read. There is nothing like learning about something REAL that sparks their interest and motivation to learn how to read. I can never find enough books about real things, written at a level that Kindergarten students can understand. These Time readers would expose them to many real life things, places, and people that just aren't a part of their everyday lives.
Our school doesn't have any active magazine subscriptions, so this is the only opportunity for students to receive this important form of reading material.
Magazines can sometimes be the one type of reading that students want to do..we can't hook them on reading without them!
